Going back to November 13, 2019 – Ah yes, the year of “Old Town Road,” with Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus, they took home Musical Event of the Year at the CMA Awards after it exploded on TikTok
And btw, I thought this was so cool, the inspiration behind the beat was from a sample from Nine Inch Nails
It was another instance where people argued over whether or not this song deserved the award, was it actually “country music?” Especially after the original version was removed from the country charts and Billy Ray Cyrus joined the new remix, which helped legitimize the song. This was just the beginning of “country-trap.”
