By 2007, Carrie Underwood was more than just an American Idol star - she was one of the biggest female hitmakers in country music. Remember this song?
“All American Girl” was Carrie’s 7th career number one, the music video was so funny too - it was about a family who hoped for boy but instead welcomed a girl who grows up to be athletic, successful, and empowered. We got to see a different side to Carrie, it wasn’t about her powerful ballads anymore - we got to laugh at her wit and enjoy a story.
Some of my favorite music videos in country come from the late 2000s, and this song definitely matched the trend for creative and funny storytelling. The visual storytelling in the music video boosted the song’s popularity on Country Music Television and stayed on the Hot Country Songs chart for over 20 weeks!
